Spring / Summer 2010 Hair

As you know, both Jessica and I attended school for hair, so OBVIOUSLY I'm going be talking a little bit about hair on this blog. This entry is dedicated to what I think are the "in" looks for this Spring & Summer

Braids:
Like last year (example: The "Lauren Conrad" braid), braids are super popular again. This year I'm seeing a lot of side braids on the runway and in the many look book's I've browsed online. I have always been a big fan of the side braid look, and it makes me happy to see that it's super popular for this year!

Long hair with centre parts:
I'm really noticing the popularity of this. I for one cannot rock the centre part, and never ever will be able to (I have a rather large forehead) but I do think this looks good on some people. You really need to be careful with this because not everyone has the face shape for this look and it might look really bad on you because of that. I envy those who can pull this off. :(
Long Loose Waves:
I absolutely love that this is in. I think long hair with waves is absolutely beautiful, and even shorter hair as well. It's a look that looks great for both a casual & formal outfit.

Top Knots / Buns:
I haven't tried this look on myself yet, but I plan to once I trim my bangs a little. I love this so much on everyone and it's a really good way to get all that hair out of your face on those really hot days. It also reminds me of little ballerinas. haha :)

Hair Colours:
One of the top colours I've definitely notice is peroxide white blonde hair (aka, the Lady Gaga look). Not everyone can pull this off, obviously and I know you definitely have to be careful having this colour because of the minerals in your water may turn it a nasty yellow (so if you plan on having this colour, make sure to get yourself some Purple Shampoo, I definitely recommend True Silver by Schwarzkopf).
However, if you want to be blonde and cannot pull off the white blonde look, don't worry... golden blondes are in as well!

Things I Dislike:
  • Shaving part of your hair off trend. You'll most likely regret it when it comes to growing that part out. I know some people that can rock it but I personally dislike it.
  • Bleached eyebrows. You look like an alien (that's if you go white blonde, and if it looks completely unnatural on you.)
  • Slicked back hair. On men it's acceptable, on girls with long hair... not so much.

Essie - Now at Shoppers Drug Mart

While I was browsing the latest Shoppers Drug Mart flyer, I noticed that they now sell Essie! It's about a $1 cheaper than going to Trade Secrets. This made me super excited. :) So everyone who is looking for Essie nail polish, be sure to check out your local Shoppers.

Not Beauty Related: Bicycle Related

Two years ago I found a Cruiser Bicycle (Cutlass, is the brand apparently) on my neighbours lawn that he was giving away. I had been eyeing the bike for a good two weeks before I sent my dad over to ask how much he wanted, he said it was free. The bicycle was originally red, and starting to rust a little. So my dad being the awesome painter he is (he's a painter at work, and works with spray guns all the time) repainted the bicycle pink for me, and redid the chrome! It came with an amazing seat, and the tires were in perfect condition.

I recently bought a new basket for my bike from good old Walmart and just had to post a picture of it! I'm so excited about this. I know nothing about bicycles (I have a feeling all the bike nerds are gonna come lurk this now), but I do know that I am in love with the thing and it gets me around my little "hamlet". I plan to get new tires & handle bar grips in the future though. :)

Essie Nail Polish Haul - Review

I recently found a place that sells Essie Nail Polish (Trade Secrets - Masonville Mall) and I definitely couldn't hold myself back from finally trying this brand. I've heard so many good things about their polishes on many different blogs, and have been dying to try them myself.

Colours: Carousel Coral, Tart Deco, Van D'Go, & Mint Candy Apple
(I had a hard time getting proper lighting for this photo, colours are a lot more brighter irl.)

Carousel Coral: I've been looking for a pink like this, since forever. It applies really well, and it's just the perfect pink. I can't say one bad thing about this colour. It goes really well with my skin colour and all.

Tart Deco: I'm currently wearing this colour on my nails, and it's the perfect orange coral colour. I think it's perfect for spring / summer. I've noticed that coral colours are very in this spring/summer so I'm definitely excited to own this colour. It applies really well as well.

Van D'Go: I love this colour of pink, but I think it looks really weird on my nails (probably a skin colour issue). However, it's an okay toe nail colour, I find that it was difficult applying this colour unlike the others. My mom is in love with it, so I'm thinking of just giving it to her.

Mint Candy Apple: I love love love love this colour so much! I cannot say one bad thing about it. It's a colour that EVERYONE must have this spring/summer! It applies on so well, and I only had to put on two coats! I usually do about three with most nail polishes. I definitely recommend this to EVERYONE! haha

two new items for my closet!

First off I'd like to apologize for the quality of these photos, sadly my camera is currently in another city & my parents camera is nowhere to be found - so macbook pictures it is!

Skirt: Julie's Closet
Price: $16.99 CDN
Detail: Black with pink roses & green stems.
I have honestly been looking for a cute skirt like this for ages! I'm a very petite girl and have the worst time with anything that deals with elastic bands, especially meant for the waist area. Best purchase in so long.

T-Shirt: Hurley
Price: $12.99 CDN
Detail: Black with silver glitter Hurley symbol & it also says Hurley in the background in light blue, grey & navy stripes
I'm not usually the biggest fan of "Skateboarding" "Surfer" etc. brands of clothing like I once was at 16, but I honestly fell in love with the way this shirt fit me. It's the perfect t-shirt for a casual day, and it'll be perfect for when the hot summer weather comes since it is a lighter material.

I think these are the best finds I've ever found in Winners. I usually have the worst luck due to my petite size. haha :(
